Hello

I've bought the "COD DAC + S/PDIF Receiver Combo" which comes with the LCDPS

I just don't know what power transformer to buy, I think the LCDPS must be powered with dual 9Vac or 15Vac.. but I'm not sure.. Should I use 15Vac or 9Vac??, what should be the right output DC voltage for the COD and SPDIF transciever? d'oh!

OK.. 7.5Vdc for the analog section, the digital section and the SPDIF.. (I've eventually found the manuals, they didn't come with the gear)

fine..

Still don't know if I should use a 15Vac or 9Vac supply for the LCDPS.. I'm guessing 15V.. right?


Is there any advantage in using half of the LCDPS for the digital section and the SPDIF and the other half for the analog section? It makes sense to me, am I right?

You want the 9v transformer. Separating the analog and digital is a good idea.

Hello all,
to take this a little further, I'll be building a SPDIF dual mono COD ( in house ). I was simply going to power each channel w/ 1/2 LCDS, and then I read in this thread that it's advantageous to split the digital and analog supplies, so here's the question.

If I only use a single LCDS, should I keep a supply for each channel and power both sections and SPDIF, or supply both channels together and separate analog and digital sections.

Or, get another LCDS, keep it dual mono and separate the digital/analog sections, which is what I'm leaning towards unless its absolutely unnecessary overkill ( I wouldn't know ).

If I do use two LCDS, one or two 9V transformers ?

You could still use one LCDPS - and just power both DAC digital input with one side and both analog section with the other. If I were to use one that is what I would do.

If you use two LCDPS I would use two transformers.

On another note,
Obviously one LCDPS will be drawing more current since it will be supplying the SPDIF module. Is there any advantage to supplying the SPDIF module separately with a separate 1/2 LCDPS so that each channels LCDPS will have identical current draws, or am I being completely anal ( not a foreign concept to me ).

Hello Russ, hello Brian,

I would like to power a dual mono COD by two Salas Reflektor-D shunt supplies (3.3v and 5v). In this case I would like to omit the onboard linear regs to improve (theoretically) the voltage noise level. What is your opinion, can a shunt supply bring an improvement? Can I directly connect the input and output pins on the board in this case? What else should be omitted / changed, if the regs are not there?
Can one use LT1761 (lower noise and better PSRR) by Linear instead of LP2985 as an alternative?

I am powering my COD DAC with the LCDPS, separating the digital and analog sections.

Would the COD DAC benefit from a single Placid HD and then powering the digital and analog section together?

The noise performance on the COD will be dictated primarily by the onboard regulators. There may be some benefit to lower noise at the input, but it would be subtle at best.
