After further review - I would suggest using 100pf - 220pf at C5 - it seems a bit more happy this way.

After playing a while with this beta Placid's, I feel that it's almost to clean sounding. In my setup the sound is very detailed and dynamic, but after removing the c5's I think the sound changed in a way that I don't like. The sound is kind of sterile and very intense. I must lower the volume when playing relative loud compared to how loud I could play with the older Placid's.
Maybe adding the c5 again will bring us back on track again ?
( my set up which is very revealing and do not hide anything under the carpet.)

Yes, even as low as 47p on the BP is fine. But don't go lower than that.

Any news on final version and when it will be availible? Just trying to decide if i should go on and assemble previuos Placids or wait a bit longer for 2.0 ...
Also It would be nice to see more reviews from people who built betas, especially about their sound after prolonged use. First impressions can be different from what people tell after a month or more :)

My second set of beta kits arrived today. When soldering the first Pacid Bp I discovered that R 6 have been changed from 4.7K to 2K. Is this ok ?
The Placid is now put together and everything seems fine.

Now all the modded Placid bp and Hd beta kits are up and running. Since Bran had cut the traces and clearly marked where to solder the parts it was very easy to build the kits.
This modded version is very promising. Great dynamiks, resolution and very detailed. Time will tell how much they will improve after a week or two.
Thank you very much Brian and Russ for outstanding customer service.
( tell me, is there no other who has bought this beta kits and are willing to share ? )

Here are some pics off my modded Placid HD. Instead of solder all the parts under the board, I was able to solder C7 and Ref 2 on the "right side". Don`t worry about C6 under the board, I forgot to cut the legs before I took the picture. Hmm,,,After the new Placids entered my system, it seems that I have lost a little bit of gain. Any suggestions ? Change some resistors on Ivy maybe will do the trick ?
It's really not a big problem, but on some recordings I could wish for more volume.

Before tried reversing to the old Placid configuration don't change anything. If the IVY worked with the previous PSU, it sure can work with the new.

The only PSU factors that would affect gain are rail voltage and available current. Make these the same as the other version and gain will be the same. Edited by user Wednesday, May 14, 2014 5:36:51 PM(UTC)

My old Placids have fixed resistors for the current, so I ended up with 47mA shunt and 87mA current ( vin-ccs ).
The beta Placids are adjusted to shunt 60mA and current over vin-ccs measure 104mA. Will more current delivered from Placids to Ivy give me more gain ? If so, there should be no problem.
Ivy on the balanced out measure 1.2v. Is this normal ?
I have measure all the beta Placids now, and everything is ok. Nothing has changed since they where installed for the first time.
The strange is that the first two weeks gain was a bit higher, so something must have happen. Realy confusing, not shure what to do. Any suggestions ?

Maybe the new beta Placids simply is so clean and has so low distortion that you can play louder without notice it. A decibel meter would been nice.
But I am pretty shure this s not the case. My ears are still working ok ( I hope ).

According to the Ivy manual, R13-16 can be changed from 180R (2v) to 356R(4v).
