While listening to a cd via the Buffalo w/volumite the volumn decreased and I went to turn it up with no result then the sound went to shhhhh (sea- sound). Turned the dac unit off. That was four hours ago. Have turned it back on and so far, ten minutes, is ok.
Any thoughts?
ps Have been using the volumite since November without a problem.

Hi, My only guess is that something caused either or both microntrollers (there is one on the buffalo and one on the volumite) to reset. Possibly even the buffalo itself reset. This is most likely because if you are using SPDIF input and the buffalo reset without the PIC resetting you would get static because the default mode for the chip is I2S. When you cycled the power things probably went back to normal. I can only guess. Cheers! Russ Edited by user Thursday, January 22, 2009 7:21:52 PM(UTC)

Actually, I'm using I2S input to the Buffalo from the "S/PDIF Receiver" board.
Thanks for the reply, if/when this occurs again I will try powering off to reset. Seems odd that it occurred while music had been playing for some time. At first I thought it was the TXO amp starting to act up again like it had been before your suggestion to increase the feedback cap to 330 pf.
Cheers

Ok, yesterday the Buff/volumite combo has no adjustment. It outputs full vol. only. Re-powered the dac unit same thing. [Brick wall] I had the dac outputted into my preamp, thankfully, so the power amp did not get a full blast! I have not done any checks yet. Don't know what I'd be looking for?

How are you powering the Volumite, and is the voltage regulator installed on it?

Opened up the bottom of the dac box, which I should have done to begin with, and found one of the three wires from vol. to Buffalo had sprung off. I had just tack wired it originally and meant to go back, if everything was ok, and use a smaller wire thru the holes. Thank you for the replies and sorry for the inconvenience. That would do it. :) No worries, it happens to us all.
Cheers! Russ
