Hi everyone, I have a Buffalo 1 Dac, built in the USA, but then brought to uk, and transformers rewired for 220-240v, this was 3-4 years ago, recently the smaller of the 2 transformers has burnt out, unfortunately the label with the identity information has burnt, I need to know what it is, the other larger one is manufactured by Avel Linberg inc model Y236053 25 VA 50/60hz, any help in identifying the other tranny would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Chris

Hi avr300, yes it is, the red and yellow output wires are both 15v .83 amp +, now i look at the dead one with a magnifying glass, the model no is no chance, but i can just make out, that red and yellow output wires are 9v .83 amp + fairly sure this one is only 15VA as well, it is physically quite a bit smaller than the 15v one. Edit found Avel Linberg Y23 spec sheet on line, looks like i need a Y236001 ? Cheers Chris Edited by user Friday, October 7, 2016 8:07:03 PM(UTC)

Go for the Y236101.
Its' 30VA.
(of cause, the Y236001 will work, its identical to the one burned out)

Thanks for that avr300, the only minor snag with fitting the 30VA is the physical size, the 2 trannys are quite close together, to fit a larger one would mean drilling another hole in the bottom case, not a huge issue, and something I would be willing to do, if I was to uprate both of them, ie replace the 25VA 15v one with the 50VA, and the 9v with the 30VA, would it improve the dac in any way, why were the later ones fitted with these, were the current demands higher ?
Cheers Chris

With the introduction of the B2 and later the B3 both with tridents local stunt regulators the demand for current increased. Using the linestage Legato did the same. And so did the use of the placid power supplies.
