Hi,
Noobie question alert:
If I am running a simple setup with I2S going into a Buffalo 2 from a transport playing good old fashioned CDs only, will the sound quality be improved by adding a Metronome module in order to increase the sample rate?

No. The Buffalo has a built in (and better) ASRC.
