they were missing in all delivered kits.
It works without them too.
But any standard led can be used.
That's what I read in other posts and what I did myself

That's correct. I completely spaced adding the two LEDs.

If you need them, I can send them, but as dhmpan mentioned, any standard LED will work fine.

Just look for forward voltage of 2.5V or less.

Hi, will Buffalo II work without installing the Mute and Lock LED? The problem I'm having now is unable to get it to work. The single ended RCA output has continuity after I test with multimeter. What do you mean by LED with spec of forward voltage of 2.5v?
That's no sound. Thanks.

Yes, it will work without the optional LEDs installed.

Hi benzene,
Happy to see you finally got yourself a BII and I look forward to hear your comparison with Monica.
Mount a couple of leds on BII as these will allow us to understand the problem better. Any red or green led will do fine.
What I/V stage are you using? There is no single ended RCA output on BII. What power-supplies?
Nic

Except for high-output types. They will draw too much current and possibly damage the chip.

Hi Nic, got mine in Jan but yet to get it to sing :)
Followed your advice of using IvyIII linestage, Placid BP for IvyIII & Placid for Buffalo.
On the IvyIII output, there's continuity between the GND & L_SE as well as GND & R_SE.
Thanks.

I checked again, there are 5 outputs on the IvyIII, for example on left channel:
L_SE, GND, L_+, GND, L_-.
Continuity are among all these 5 outputs terminal.
Checked the soldering and no bad solder joint.
Anyone know what's wrong or experienced this problem before.
Thank you in advance.

The relay will pull SE outputs to GND until you power them up.

On both channels, all 5 output terminals are still
Connected to each others even after power on.
Are resistors R25 to R30 necessary to install if I only use 1 Placid Bipolar to power IvyIII?
Thanks.

R25-R30 has nothing to do with the number of used power supplies. R25-R30 carry the output signals from the circuit to the output terminal blocks. So yes, do install those. Otherwise you get no sound at all.

You should check:

1. Power supply to IVY. The voltage at the supply pins.
2. Relay orientation.

Upload a picture, it eases the trouble shooting.

avr300 & NicMac:
Thanks for your advice, i've checked the IvyIII power supply and it's getting 15.14volt.
Relay orientation is correct.
Here are some photos, checked again and install relevant LEDs on the Mute & Lock. No lock signal upon powering up. Source is Squeezebox Touch via coaxial connection.

Russ or Brian:
Any solution for me to troubleshoot this?
Thanks.

**************

Your tridents are installed in the wrong places!

VDD should be 1.2V and VDD_XO should be 3.3V. You may have done significant damage to the chip (hopefully not). Swap these immediately.

Brian:
Thanks. Finally it's able to obtain the lock signal.
My STUPIDITY of not getting it right. d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!
So now there are different problems. The Buffalo is singing and the sound is distorted like how a real buffalo sounds.
The 5 output terminals are still "connected" to each other.
What type of damages we are talking bout here and how to determine if the chip is gone or any other damages?
Appreciate if you could tell me in detail on how to check it as i know nothing bout electronic.
Thanks.

It's tough to say what the damage is, if any, as I have not tried this power arrangement :)

I assume the distorted output you are reporting is direct from the BII outputs. That may be a non-issue, depending on how you are checking them.

Can you post a pic of the bottom of the IVY? When you power on the IVY, so you hear the relay click? What is you power source for the IVY?

[EDIT]: I see you are using a Placid BP. Can you describe it's output level and shunt settings?

Benzene,
Well - if you get a lock something must be working! I think several have tried misplacing the Tridents without killing the Buffalo - so there is still hope!
Did you remove the jumpers on the bottom of Buffalo when installing the Tridents? Post photo. Did the Buffalo work before you installed the tridents?
Are you using the Volumite volume controller (I can see you have wires connected to the I2C header)? If yes - then you need to remove the on-board controller on the Buffalo (the 8-leg black chip in a socket). Alternatively try removing the Volumite but be careful as you will have full output volume (i.e. only do it if you can attenuate somewhere else).
What voltage do you have on the Buffalo and IVY II rails (vs. ground)?
Why are you using wires between Buffalo and IVY? I'm sure there were board-to-board connectors in the kit you received.
What is your load (pre-amp/amp/headphones? It looks like you are using both the balanced and SE outputs at the same time.
