Hey benzene, I see you are powering your Volumite from the Buff board. In this case you should remove onboard regulator on Volumite (IC2) and replace it with jumper (consult Volumite manual and this picture). Earlier, i followed Nic's advice and I've tried to power up without using Volumite but the sound still distorted.

What is the voltage on IVY: - vs. gnd and + vs. gnd ? Should be set to 12-15V.
Does the relay click when you power IVY?

voltage on IvyIII is 7.56volt on both - vs gnd and + vs gnd.
For - vs +, voltage is 15.18volt.
Oh ya i forgot to report that i never hear click from the relay after i tried to power up for few times.

The IVY has to run on +12v gnd -12v (up to +15v gnd -15v) The relay is 24 volt, and you are supplying it with 15v. That's why you never hear it engaged. Crank up the voltage. Edited by user Monday, February 28, 2011 8:37:02 AM(UTC)

Also, there are several questionable solder joints on your IVY. Solder joints should have sloping contact with the pads on the board. Some of yours look more like minarets, where the solder ball does not bond properly with the circuit board. Add some flux and reheat these joints.

Hopefully I'll be able to get it to run after I come back from my trip. So eager to know how good the sound is :)

Thanks to all. My buffalo is up & running. Initial listening, sound was ok but soundstage is very narrow. I left it run in for more than 40 hours and the sound improve. Music is playing "freely", low Hz reproduction is good and bad recordings are easily identified now due to it's ability of playing music with superb transparency. It is able to bring out details yet it sounds relaxing without fatigue even listen to it for long time. My question is how long does it need to run in, in order to reach it's full potential. And is it ok to switch on the buffalo 24/7 without turning it off? Does switching it on all the time helps in better music reproduction? I have left my Buffalo DAC on for 3 days straight without issue and I don't think leaving it on all the time would do it any harm. If you can, just check the temp of the power-supply units' heatsinks just to be sure - 60degrees C or thereabouts should be fine. Enjoy and when you're ready, try the DAC with the Legato 3. Most of the guys around here prefer the Legato (version 1) over the IVY-III. I can only imagine how good the Legato 3 will sound like.
