mysterious failure...........
my BuffaloII DAC works fine with a Pioneer player pd-d9mk2. But if I connect to a PC+M2tech hiface digital audio interface, not work. But with an identical one in BuffaloII, a friend of mine works. How is this possible?

Can you try swapping M2Techs and see if it is still a problem?

My little PC is working ok, my m2tech works well with another DAC (gigawork), but does not work with my Buffalo Dac II! but it works with my CD player ...... What can I do?

did the test with m2tech my friend. Not working. What can I do? seems to work well with my Buffalo 16bit/44Khz signal, but 24/192 is not working ....

IMO That points to low signal integrity. What is the exact setup? If you are using a mux, try running SPDIF or better/shorter wires to the Buffalo.

Exact setup? Mini Pc Acer Aspire One+ Buffalo II whit three power supply+ tube preamp 1578 SRPP (or D3a inductive load tube preamp)+ power amp Nelson Pass F4. Tested all the cables I have at home. Van de hul tried cable 10 cm. It does not work ....( sigh!)
somewhere else?

Sorry, but by exact I really mean exact. Your text describes a global layout, but it doesn't say how it's exactly put together. A Buffalo II isn't a standard box you buy, you mix and match parts as you see fit. Also, mentioning a brand like van den hul is totally useless unless you say how you used it and what cable: for internal use there are 23 different cables that are all branded van den hul, and that's just the current line-up. Please be more specific and if possible add pictures of the lay-out.

When first building my Buff II, I hooked up via a Hiface and couldn't get a lock at 192 either, it was intermittent. I am now using a Hiface EVO and all is fine. I think that the regular Hiface may be the issue. You could try an attenuator on Hiface as apparently it puts out a higher than normal output, this may also reduce signal reflections which some have claimed as a benefit.

I also couldn't get a lock on 192khz with my buff II, that was when using a Esi Julia card, which has has a pretty stable output normally. To fix it I mounted a S/PDIF Transceiver Module in between....not a elegant solution but in my case a simple one, I had the tranciever lying around anyway. (and using the I2S inputs of the ES9018 instead) It is know by several designers/manufactures that the S/PDIF reciever of the ES9018 at 192khz is a bit iffy! Some reduce the spec of the dac back to 176,4 and some include some kind of S/PDIF reciever chip before the ESS chip. Emile Edited by user Saturday, October 16, 2010 9:55:22 AM(UTC)

Emile Hi Emile, I had the same thought, but now having the Hiface EVO as a low jitter source, though that adding the S/PDIF reciever might actually be a step backwards. When my Buffalo is fully assembled I'll report back the results. Regards

HiFace works here at 192 driven by Pure music from an older intel MacMini. I have read that not all of the usb outputs are the same in terms of speed, so try all of the various usb outputs on your computer. It also helps if you can keep the bus that communicates with the dac as free of other uses as possible. My music is stored on an external firewire when I use the USB HiFace. Before I used a Firewire interface so then I connected the music drive via USB.

An SPDIF receiver could solve the issue, but I would suggest waiting for the new USB module. It'll provide I2S output, and plays at least 24 bit/192 Khz (but Russ aims for 32/384).
