I suffer audio dropouts ever few seconds. The frequency of the dropouts often decreases the longer the unit is used. I suffered the same problem using the USB + Metronome. How can solve the problem?

This is usually due to noise on the SPDIF/I2S ground. The ESS DAC is very particular about SPDIF errors, it does not like them.

Typically this sort of problem is with the SPDIF signal itself. It may help to use an isolation transformer, but its impossible to say for sure.

Using the MUX may indeed help, but it really depends on the true source of the issue.

try moving the spdif cable around
it might pick up some stray noise
