Russ/Brian, my first build. Buffalo IIIse, Placid HD, Toslink. These three I built and got it running. I also got an Amanero-Hermes-Cronus. Here is where my problem starts. I build it based on all the post here so far. Installed the Crystal and the resistors. Set the jumper to 1:2. Voltage at Cronos is 5.25v, connect DCK, D1, D2 to BIIIse, power connected, jumpered Ip_s. Connect USB cable to windows computer. Turn it on and I could not get a lock, NO LOCK. Tried everything, No Luck....I need some expert advice.  Will post pictures tonight when I get home from work. Thanks, Alex

The DAC and Cronus are sharing the same Placid HD. And I already tried connecting a separate ground wire from the Cronus to the one of the Ground input on the DAC and still No Lock. I will try again tomorrow.
How about the Switch settings? I read somewhere that on sw2:6, to turn off spdif, do I have to do that? I tried it and still no lock, so I turn it on again.
Something I dont quite get, people talk about reprogramming the Amanero, not that I have to, because I got the set from Twisted Pair, and it should have the right programming in it. Question is, how do you flash the Amanero? is there a jumper you have to set to do it? I see that there are pin and a jumper on the Amanero, but dont know what its for. If it is indeed for flashing, would it hurt the programming when I am running the unit with the jumper on it? I may have damage the program in it? Just a thought.

Thanks guys for your reply. I dont think I need to reflash Amanero. Any ideas what could be wrong with my build? Just dont know what to do at this point. Russ/Brian, anyone, I need some expert advice.

I do have a 20mhz Oscilloscope, but have to admit, have not used it much. I have the probe, but I need guidance in where in the Amanero to touch or check and what to expect. At the moment, I am using the Toslink, that was easy, but this cronos is something else. Ok, please, show me how to do it, I would appreciate it very much.

Just curious - why do you have the jumper installed on P3 on the Amanero? It is only used to erase the firmware on the Amanero. Edited by user Wednesday, June 8, 2016 9:13:10 PM(UTC)

That was one of my question. After assembling it, my first try, I had it on, simply because I did not know what it is. Have no idea what that jumper is for. I am afraid that I may have erased the programming in the amanero. Did I? I have been reading all over the place, and never ran across on how to flash or erase for that matter the amanero, until someone responded to me on how to do it.

Oh Jezz, I knew it, I messed it up, Ok, I will do some reading and will try to reprogram them. One quick, do I need any special hardware to do this? or do I just use my computer and just connect the USB cable to the amanero? Shall I disconnect it from the DAC?

On the volume control, I know brian mentioned 2k to 10k is fine, I do have a motorized one, but its dual 50k, I can parallel them to have 25k, but it is an audio type not a linear type, question is will this work? Excellent! Your pictures helped a lot.
Just setup the TOSLINK board for consumer output and use the normal B3SE spdif switching capability. There is only one downside to doing this - you must keep SPDIF auto-detect enabled on the B3SE which can sometimes cause random unlocks with very high rate I2S/DSD signals becuase it will get false positives that there is a SPDIF signal present. This generally only occurs above 192Khz.
The other approach is to use an OTTO-II and a SPDIF receiver. That way the DAC input itself only ever receives I2S/DSD and you can turn off the SPDIF auto-detect.

Thanks russ, I have to get the OTTO-II and a SPDIF receiver, I play very high rate, up to 384Khz, so I guess this is the way to go. Also, I will be building my other BIIIse, doing dual mono, what other issues will I have, knowing my only two input? I need to know before I order the OTTO-II and SPDIF receiver.

Dual mono wiring can be tricky - proceed with care :) Teleporters and fully independent mono DACs can help here.
