Does USBStreamer (8 channel) work as I2S input to Buffalo III?

Hello Russ or Brian,
I have MiniDSP USBStreamer which I plan to use as 8 channel interface to either 4 OPUS or 1 Buffalo III. I already have the OPUSs but am thinking my project might be easier/better with a Buffalo III.
USBStreamer works as Master Clock. OPUS works as slave, but I read Buffalo works as its own master clock.
Will the USBStreamer work with the Buffalo III for my purposes? Am I crazy for considering the Buffalo over the OPUSs, or am I on the right track?
Reading Forum and other DIY sites has me confused with regard to the master/slave situations!

It should work fine with the Buffalo. You just leave out MLCK (Pin 9).
The Buffalo has an on-board ASRC, so does not require/use the master clock.

Thanks for the confirmation, Brian.
Finally, I already purchased three OPUS and would need a fourth for 8 channels. I've heard varying stories of success/failure in simply splitting clock wires to multiple OPUSs which is why I am now considering the Buffalo III.
Am I overconcerned about the multi Opus clock wiring, or do you agree the Buffalo will be a better choice?

Well, four is a lot. With that many, you may need to start worrying about the current required to to drive all the gates. It really depends on how much current the outputs of the USB Streamer can support. (This only pertains to LRCK and SCK lines).
I would give it a shot with the Opus boards, since you already have them. It will probably work fine. the inputs are fairly high impedance (not sure of the exact value off the top of my head).
If there is a problem, you can simply use some logic chips to act as a buffer and you won;t have any problems, but it does add some complexity.

I would like to read up on the use of logic chips (just in case). can you point me in right direction as to how this might be set up or where to read about it?
BTW: You guys really are great at providing advice and go way above what would be expected for a DIY product!! Thanks

Hi dariedel.
You can use two SI8660 like buffer and isolator chip. Is very easy to use. They can be mounted on DIP/SOIC adapters boards.

Just a follow up on this. I think I found a solution to my need which is to use miniDSPs USB streamer as input into the Buffalo III. This would bypass the AES16e altogether. I could get rid of my AES16e and my Lucid 88192 and replace it with a Buffalo III and UsbStreamer (in theory). Total price would be about the same for my purposes and would be a much better solution. I could even use it with my laptop instead of needing a bulky desktop.
