Don't know, maybe if the reg gets to hot it can influence on the gain. Anyway, all is back to normal now.
(today, when playing music with this loose reg, the sound in som passages was distorted, it fooled me to suspect that something was wrong with one of my speakers )

The new Placids are available now. The page is still being updated, but you should be able to order.

Already placed an order and can't wait to get it For some reason comparing these new Placids to older ones feel more exciting than any other tweaks\upgrades lately. I hope the difference is as big as people claim it to be At least my old placidHD already found a new job powering WaveIO...(maybe a bit overkill though)

Well, wait and see ( hear ). Even the Exa usb-I2S board in my BIIIse did improve in sound when the new Placid HD took over for the older version. (I feed Exa with clean 5v on the usb side ) Edited by user Saturday, May 31, 2014 8:18:45 AM(UTC)

'This new PS can be very accurately set using a basic formula. No need to use the pot unless you want to.'
My Placid 2.0 power supply kits arrived today and will replace the 1.0 supplies in my B III Dual Mono. Although I can set-up the new supplies using my DMM, I would like to know the basic formula mentioned in this previous post. Thanks

Allow me.
Vout =2.5V * ( 1 + (R12 / R2))
Current you have to measure.

Just received my new Placid kits and about to assemble! A little question though: i have a few of big capacitors left - Cornel Dubilier 22000uF 50V from previous amp builds, is it good idea to try these instead of Panasonics?

So here is my "overcapacitized" placid 2.1 BP I also used Elna Silmic II instead of smaller Panasonic electrolytics. They are physicaly larger for same capcacity and voltage (10mm vs 6.3mm), but still fit. Although there's no more space left so the largest electrolytic caps that fit here is 10mm in diameter. It's too early to comment on sound yet - right now it is a bit too narrow, forward and bright for my liking but already started to change. Previous placid sounded the same first, but before i pulled it out it was already producing amazing spacious, deep and neutral sound i enjoyed a lot. But one thing i notice already - it feels "cleaner"...the bass is more also firm.. P.S. I think i'll miss the green LEDs - all these green little lights looked nice :) Edited by user Tuesday, June 17, 2014 8:21:13 PM(UTC)

After a few days of burn-in the improvement is small and while it sounds cleaner than older placid - the overall sound is more bright and forward and soundstage is narrow I'm going to replace Silmics2 back with stock Panasonic FC in C2, C3, C8 and see what happens. Maybe higher ESR of Elnas (guessing, since there's no data) is too much here. UPDATE: Whoa, i replaced Elnas with "default" Panasonic FCs and sound is anything but bright now - deep and bassy, wide soundstage Now i hear what placids 2.1 can do - great sound, and i'm yet to replace non-bipolar placid. Maybe i got fake Elnas? Didn't seem so and i have reliable supplier Edited by user Sunday, June 22, 2014 4:20:25 PM(UTC)

I've just built a couple of V2.1 kits, and must say this version is the easiest I've built so far. I took a few snapshots during testing. Documentation is also moving along quite nicely, I'm currently waiting if Russ and/or Brian have corrections or additions for it. Note: if the caps look big, that's because I couldn't resist upgrading them to 33K uF. LeonvB attached the following image(s): FLIR0276.jpg (133kb) downloaded 59 time(s).
