Hi everybody!
I am very happy to join this forum.
After a few adventures, (ups and downs), in the dac research, I finally decided to embrasse my previous idea - often we go back to intial choices after making a big circle but it makes part of the learning process.
So, now I am secure about this previous idea : I want to make a complete Buffalo dac. I recently bought an Anedio D2 dac, a excellent device, a big sound, musical, with a good implementation of the Sabre chip. I bought a Paradisea+ dac after that, a sweet dac with a good potential for diyers. I'm making a few mods on it. The Anedio is faaaaaaar (!) a better dac - for me!

Later on, I intend to "lampizate" my future Buffalo dac with an output from "The Lampizator", see HERE, my ambition.
Not bad I think! But before that I want to buy the fuffalo dac with it's Pear Audio output.

To make it clear, I am a "soft" diyer, I mean I recently started my DIY activiites, without any electronic skills.
I made a very good LM3886 totally dual mono amp, with LDRs and lots of nice parts, well implemented.
This a typical first quality project for a diyer. Very simple and affordable.

and here!!

I had someone helping me with that. Now I'm alone in the jungle, but I have nice forums like this, with passionate people like you, helping me. So I thank you in advance.

My question is very simple.
I need a complete stereo Buffalo dac with volume control, input selector, regulators, output stage and all the possible fancy boards that Pear Audio has to improve the sound. I just want to have an idea about the items I should order...
I think I need this, but please correct me if I am wrong :

- http://www.twistedpearau...m/digital/buffalose.aspx (379 usd module)

- http://www.twistedpearau...om/control/volumite.aspx (with Volumite Firmware for Buffalo24 DAC (All Versions))

- http://www.twistedpearau...m/linestages/legato.aspx (complete kit) with this transfo
http://www.twistedpearau.../power/transformers.aspx 50VA - I hope there's a EU version, if not, I'll buy elsewhere. For psu board I'll have to buy this, (http://www.twistedpearaudio.com/power/lcbps.aspx), because the placid HD is out of stock

- What psu for the dac board??? With what transformer?

That's all, thank you for reading!

Before you start ordering, please read the guide.

The Volumite is not used for the BIII-series.
Placid HD/HD BP will be replaced with a new version, I suggest waiting for it.

If you are in France, it could be a good idea to save on shipping costs and get this type as a transformer: http://www.selectronic.f...core&suggestion=term
You could use the same rating and voltage as the TPA parts, or even raise the VA's a bit.

Hi LeonvB!
Thanks for replying.
Of course, I'll wait for the new psu.
As a matter of fact, I prefer that transfo from selectronic, their core transfos are very good indeed.
I'll raise the VAs a bit, as you suggest.

I have two of those with 300VA and 2x30V secondaries, they'r getting some dust...waiting for a project.

Can you suggest a vom control?
Is Pear Audio going to introduce a vol control for the Buf III?

Volume control is built-in. Please read the section "Adding volume control" of the guide.

Any idea when the new versions of the Placid HD/HD BP will be available? I have asked the TPA guys several times now and have yet to receive any reply (very disappointing & poor customer service IMHO).

The website has shown "a few weeks" for well over "a few weeks" now.

I am in the middle of a BIIISE build and this is the last piece I need.

Since there were problems with the beta units one can not blame Russ for being cautious about a release date: he likely doesn't know - not yet at least. In my book, it's better to have a good product a little bit later than a faulty one very soon.

I also think it's a good thing to remember that Russ and Brian do this as a hobby. They don't have lots of time to go through their e-mail. Things tend to get lost in the sheer amount of mail received, even if you're likely whitelisted like me.

Sorry guys, my fault. The new Placid boards arrived last week, but I have been spending all my time with an urgent family matter and was not able to complete testing until yesterday.

I will get them up for sale today or tomorrow, and start shipping kits out later this week, after I have a chance to get some built.

The new Placids are available now. The page is still being updated, but you should be able to order.
