Hi Russ and Brian, Enjoyed the holliday's? Too short I guess :)
In the meanwhile I received the new Firmware Chip. I thought it should be plug and play.
But when placing it there was a strange echo sound from the Rh speaker and the volume control did not work. Fortunally it was not too loud...
Any suggestions? I placed the jumpers as in the Integration Guide for dual mono operation....
Thx,
Jordo

What happens when you configure a single DAC as a mono right channel with the other DAC unconnected?

Hi Russ, I put the new Firmware Chip somewhere in a safe place and I failed to find it for now But If I found it I will continue troubleshooting. I am not sure if I can comply to your suggestion because the LH DAC is configured as the Master DAC with the Firmware Controller. The RH is Slaved. The only thing I can do is disconnect the I2C line between them and the DIN as well. Should that be sufficient? Thx! Jordo

It does not matter which DAC you treat as the right channel. Just assure that it is the only DAC on the bus.

One thing to note. The new firmware reverses the switch polarity. Very sorry that I failed to draw attention to that earlier.

Hi Russ, Which Switch Polarity do you mean actually, what is the result of that and how do I have to act on that? In another post I read you were speaking about the Re-mapping trough input jumpers. Which Jumpers would that be (J-?)? I'm not sure if I have installed them because the term Remapping Input Jumpers does not show up in the Integration Guide. Quote:There is a bug that can (sometimes) lead to a mis-mapping of internal DACs if you use I2S and the software remapping for stereo instead of installing the input jumpers. This is the result of either a quirk in ES9018 and how it deals with default register settings, and the order in which the registers are set. It does not always occur, but sometimes does, so we have a new version of firmware the prevents it from ever happening. Basically, you might get three (3) internal DACs assigned to each channel, rather than four.
If you are using S/PDIF inputs, or have installed the remapping jumpers, you don't need the firmware update.

I just mean that the dip switches on = 0 off = 1. Opposite of what the old firmware was.
Jumpers are not changed at all. :)
If you are using sidecar you won't use any input jumpers.

Ok, yes that was quite important to inform about I flipped all the Dip Sw's and everything works fine now! Just to be sure, this go's for Switch 1 and Switch 2? Thx! Jordo

Hm... don't you think this should be communicated a little clearer, perhaps in the manual?

I've uploaded a new version, I think it accurately describes the changes. If not, please let me know.

One more thing that just came up.
With the new firmware if you are using SPDIF4 you will want to keep SW2 positions 1 and 2 open - not closed - or the input selector won't work.
Because the firmware reads the switches opposite now it means the input on the SPDIF4 module will be in reverse order.
Thanks for your help Leon!
Cheers! Russ

So they still have to be in the OFF position (that's what the guide says now)?
