How do I go about switching the sidecar from using the 4 SPDIF input to the I2S input?

Have you already tested the WaveIO without the Sidecar?
Is SW2:5 set to OFF to allow control by an external switch?

Problems like these are an exercise in elimination. Work your way from one module to another, to find out where in the chain you have a problem.

Questions to be answered:
1. You claim no music. Does S/PDIF still work with the Sidecar inbetween the S/PDIF module and the B3? If it does, you know at least the signal is going from input to B3 OK, so the S/PDIF module, sidecar and B3 should work on a very basic level. At least most of your wiring and modules work. It also proves the power supplies are working fine.
2. If you do have music through S/PDIF, does it stop when you switch over? This would likely indicate a fault in the wiring to the WaveIO, the Wave IO itself or the PSU for the WaveIO (if you use one).
3. If S/PDIF does not work, do you have music with the Sidecar not between the S/PDIF module and the B3? This would indicate a problem in the Sidecar or the wiring of the Sidecar to the B3.
etc.

You simply keep eliminating parts of the whole chain until you find the part that is causing the fault. Keep in mind adding or removing parts will change your power usage: the current may need adjustment.

In that case the DAC does seem to recognize a signal, at least it locks on to something. Meaning WaveIO, Sidecar and B3 do have some kind of connection.
Did you ever had your setup working, fi. with just the S/PDIF module? If not, the problem might be volume control or the I/V stage.

Note: in any case it might be a good idea to post a few pictures.

It might be the board to board connector on the Sidecar: it seems little solder is used on that part. Also did you remember to strip the ground from those uFL coax cables?

Direct wiring certainly would be something to try. Otto II won't join the inputs as required. USB only would only be a test: it would tell you the WaveIO and B3 work together. After that, adding the Sidecar and S/PDIF module are next on the list.

I connected the ground from WaveIO to the sidecar ground. Someone had done it that way and I just followed what they did. It is working though I am not sure if it might be better if done the way you did it. Any thoughts?
