Guys, my new BIIISE locks at SPDIF, but does not at I2S coming from Squeezebox Touch. My old B32S locks from SBT's I2S well. Any idea? thanks, Andy

You have to open it up and snag it off the board. I output I2S from my Touch via a Twisted Pear Teleporter. Edited by user Monday, January 7, 2013 5:34:45 PM(UTC)

Please excuse my ignorance but what is the advantage of taking the I2S signal from the touch? Lower Jitter? Edited by user Thursday, January 10, 2013 2:03:44 AM(UTC)

Lower Jitter? Lower jitter is the goal of course with the clock separate from the data with I2S. However the way the ESS Sabre chip handles SPDIF, the difference is not that great compared to SPDIF out of the Touch in my system. From the ESS Sabre white paper.........."SPDIF decoding is done using a method that does not require an explicit measure of the clock frequency." http://www.esstech.com/PDF/sabrewp.pdfI've read other DAC chips respond with significant improvement using I2S versus SPDIF. Some folks question whether it is worth doing the I2S out of the Touch unless you bring an external clock in. I was told the difference would/could be subtle with just I2S out and it is, but it is still a gain and therefore worthwhile. There was also the thrill of gambling with a discontinued product that could cost me hundreds more than what I paid for it. I got my Touch when Logitech had a screaming deal on them, like $185 US. |

Thanks, re the Squeezebox the only player that seems to be left at the local supplier is the Duet but nothing at all shows on the US website, have they abandoned that type of product?
