Try disconnecting the legato, then load each output with a low value resistor (equal values at each) to GND. 10-100R should be fine. Then measure the output of each side (left and right). Even a very basic PC based oscilloscope would be much better. With no signal you should see no AC voltage at the outputs. With a signal it should be a small but equal signal when loaded with 100R something ~500mv maybe a bit more.

If you want I use my scope & post the shoots pics?
