I think that means "overload," which means there is no connectivity (same as when the leads are not connected to anything?).

If that is the case, then we need to look elsewhere for the problem. Did you connect and of the signal or power grounds to the chassis, other than the earth connection from the IEC connector?

I also read somewhere that O.L means open loop. Does that mean anything to you guys?

Yes, open is what you want. The loop may not be via the chassis. It may be elsewhere - even further down the chain.

if you have a headphone or small 32ohm speaker or something you could drive that directly. Is the noise still there?

Wire a jack to the left and right SE outputs and GND if you have one. Then listen with headphones.

I wired to the SE outputs and attached ear buds and the hum is in both channels.
What's next?

Try powering the rig bypassing the IEC inlet filter/connector. Remember a fuse, and remember to stay alive.

I assume that you have a fuse on the mains side toady, perhaps it is in the IEC filter, check that please.

I would have suggested you to disconnect the green GND wire from the IEC, unmount the IEC from the case and run the thing floating relative to protective earth.

That way we will eliminate any external ground loop.


But again, I won't ask you to mess with mains !! Do it if, and only if, you feel confident.

Yes, I have fuses in the iec unit. I disconnected it from the case and the ground wire and placed it on a sponge outside the case. There is still hum in each speaker. I disconnected the source and there is still hum in each speaker.

It would appear I had the black wire in the wrong place on the Ivy 3 and have moved that to the ground position. The hum has reduced but is not gone. Should the iec ground be mounted to the case or not?

I have reworked the boards and now the hum is very faint, but now the music sounds like I am frying eggs. Major interference. Any thoughts.
