Hi there,
I am using the lastest Placid HD version to power my Linkwitz Orion crossover. It went together with no problems and measured perfect but when I power up I get this scratching background sound. The overall sound quality is excellent but the scratching is always there on both channels.
Any ideas where to look?
Thanks
Paul

Setup for 12v output and 330ma and about 80ma shunted when powered up, the tranfo is supplying 17v.

I am thinking it must be a cap problem and have resoldered them but problem remains, would too much heat on the main output caps be a possibility.?

The voltage is not sagging when the load is connected, correct?
Did you useable different supply before the Placid? If so, does the scratching go away if you swap it back in?

This is very interesting, and potentially explaining an issue I had had with no less than 2 Legatos' - perhaps the origin of the whole problem was the powersupply. Hmm. I wasn't that broad minded.. Sorry about that. Legato pops and scratchI said I cured the problem by changing the power resistors - to be frank the cover has not been mounted ever since - and the problem has newer been heard ever since. But the whole rig has not been as hot as "before". Listing in eager... Edited by user Thursday, March 8, 2012 10:27:06 AM(UTC)

Hi Brian,
No voltage sag.
I would tried an alternative if I had one! The last ps died, I thought about wiring up two 9v batteries, think that would at least test the crossover.
I am off to Europe for work over next 4 weeks but will get back to it on my return if you have any pointers?
The annoying thing is the sound is fundamentally great except for the scratching/popping in the background (louder on one channel).
