I have successfuly running BIII playing mp3, flac, DD, dts, dts-hd mstr, mlp files.
However there are some problems.
Don't know why but pot isn't working, when I turn the pot cw sound disappear imediately and BIII needs to be turned off, windows volume control is working.
In my BIII only two channels are working. I switched DIP input remapping setting to Off, diff. mode - true, didn't install any jumpers.
Also have a turn on-off thump, but it can be from sound card as it was before.
Any thoughts how to make it work as intended?

The thump is because your not using an output stage.

Double check that you have good continuity from the ADC header to the pot.

You need to send your I2S "data" signal to all four of D2-D5.

What do you mean Russ, continuity? Contact between headers and pot is made with soldering iron.
I connected I2S signal to 6 inputs of BIII (DCK-D1-D2-D3-D4) as the borrower UDA1328 is only 6ch, 8ch one has crazy small pin spacing. Took only 4 outputs. 1 and 2 are working, 3, 4 are not. Could this be related with "More than 4 inputs" on page 14 of the Guide?

Ah well I have no idea about your I2S input. I thought you were trying to do stereo input.

What i mean is to verify that you have good actual contnuity from the pot to the pads. Measured. Also you can measure the voltage at the wiper pad and be sure it moves proportionately with the pot position.

I figured it out just now that when the pot is set to the end of CCW, DAC is working normally, when turned a little bit CW sound disappear and do not appear again when turned back to the end of CCW. The sound appears only when pot is set to the end of CW. I guess the DAC don't see the pot and atenuation become available only after start using the pot.
Perhaps I should measure a voltage on pins that coming to D2-D3 DAC inputs?

Disconnect the pot and measure it with a DMM. Does it give you the expected readings when you turn the shaft.

BIII shall except all 8 inputs and play from all outputs when back jumpers are not installed?
What about limitations mentioned in "More than 4 inputs" on page 14 of the Guide?

And when the pot is turned halfway, you are getting approx 2.435k?

POT is working normaly from my point of view Brian. However DAC isn't muted when pot lifted to min. after its powering on, but when in a middle of position, DAC starts with half of the volume level.
The only problem for me with BIII is not working channels. Today I figured out that 1, 2, 3, 4 outputs of the DAC are working only as left and right channels, 5, 6, 7, 8 as rear channels accordingly.
What shall I do to make it work as intended - with 8ch outputs?

What do you mean? The outputs of the sound card?

I mean outputs of BIII marked on PCB. I'm still not determined which one is left, right and rears, they alway sound mixed up when I use 4ch - 3, 5 and 4, 6 outputs (in sound card setting it shows right ch., in my outputs it can be rear left and so on)

What I am saying is that to know what is going to be on the output you have to know what is on each of the inputs. What I would do is connect only one I2S data line at a time, and see which 2 channels each actually carries.

Are you saying that BIII in default configuration shall support separate 8ch inputs and outputs?
You didn't tell anything about if that problem could be as mentioned in BIII integration guide on p. 14

It is an 8 channel DAC. The default state is 8 channels. To do anything else with PCM(I2S) or DSD requires configuration. :)

Let's start from the top...

Can you tell us what your card outputs look like, and what you are trying to achieve? We will then try to help you configure the Buffalo to meet that need.

It's not card outputs, it's card's DAC inputs. They look like in a datasheet of UDA1328 and I connected them to BIII inputs exactly the same, 6chs. There can't be any mistake or misfunction, because 4chs of BIII are working with paralleled outputs (or inputs). The only problem could be with BIII board or its configuration. Will you tell me how to make it to except 8 or 6 inputs?

This is the simplest way to get 6-channels. It uses 6 of the 8 available Buffalo channels. (No jumpers installed on the board.)

Inputs:
Code:

UDA1325 PIN | Buffalo PIN
-------------|------------
BCK | DCK
WS | D1
DATA12 | D2
DATA34 | D3
DATA56 | D4

Outputs:
Code:

UDA1325 PIN | Buffalo PIN
-------------|------------
DATA12 | O1 / O2
DATA34 | O3 / O4
DATA56 | O5 / O6

You could combine some channels to use two DACs to get better fidelity for two channels (say front left and right). That would take a couple jumpers.

I connected inputs of both from UDA1328 to BIII exactly as you wrote and also connected one GND pin of BIII inputs to Vssd pin of UDA1328. After this I have on BIII DATA12 goes from 01-02 / 03-04 and DATA34 goes from 05-06 / 07-08 outputs of BIII. Didn't install any jumpers.

Okay, that will give you four channels of audio. With the configuration you have, you should also jumper the outputs to match.
