I've just finished a Bufalo32 build. I just want to make sure I'm wiring up the ground properly to avoid loops. I have the Buffalo32 which is being fed with two Placid for each analog channels and one LCDPS feeding the DAC itself. The other half of the LCDPS is feeding the SPDIF mux and a small OTTO-like relay board. Right now I have all the ground connections wired up to each power supply, which is kind of messy I think. Im thinking of connecting just the ground from the LCDPS to the Buffalo32 and the Placids being daisy chained from one to the other via each LCDPS halves and the last end connection to chassis ground via a ground loop breaker. Does this make sense, or should I do it differently?

The DAC is working great, but I've noticed that it sometimes loses lock from the mux when the chassis ground is connected to one of the power supplies via the breaker. When its disconnected the problem seem to disappear. The mux itself doesn't seem to lose lock, just the DAC itself.

The two analog grounds and the digital ground are all connected at the DAC, so there is no real need to connect them at the power supplies.

This leaves the second half of the LCDPS powering the MUX. For that, I would jumper the two grounds of the LCDPS, or even run a wire to the VD terminal on the Buf32, making the BUF the heart of your "star" ground. Then the MUX does not need a ground line connecting to the Buf32, if you are using I2S, as everyone is already sharing the same ground potential. If you are using S/PDIF, the output is ground isolated, so I would connect + and GND in that case.

For the chassis ground, I would personally connect it only to mains ground, but you could use the ground breaker and connect it at the VD ground terminal, which will be as close as you are going to get to a star ground.

Great, I'll get cracking on it right away. Thanks.

OK, I tried the new ground wiring. Works, except on the right channel there is no sound without the ground wire from the right Placid supply. The left works without it.
