The Buffalo Dac works fine, but if certain light switches in the house are turned on (presumably on the same circuit/fuse) the speakers make a cracking/pop sound and I need to restart the dac for it to turn on again.

What is the cause and how can I avoid this from happening, not sure if it's that good for the speakers either?

a lot of people have commented on this problem. The DAC seems to be very sensitive to any changes to the AC mains. Mine would loose lock then quickly come back when I turned on or off any component in my system. I got rid of most of this sensitivity by using a bit of AC conditioning (the felix common mode filter) I built one for my low gain side (preamp, cdp, tuner, dac, and tuntable)But I still get the problem only when I turn on of off my tuntable. I am going to build an other felix just for the DAC and sdee if that helps.

This was fixed by using a basic powerboard with surge protection, $20 dollar job. No more problems - this seems to be all you need to resolve it, no more pops or momentary drop outs
