Does the chip itself "auto" upsample to 192/24. I am debating on building a new AudioPC around some existing parts (and some new ones). I planned on using a M-Audio Audiophile 192 for SPDIF out in the newer rig. Right now I am using a VIA Epia via USB out which is limited to 44.1/16 , which really is fine since all my CD's are FLAC rips at that Freq/Rez. Is there a gain at using the SPDIF out of the sound card over the USB out (based off the Twisted Pear USB card). If I use the M-audio card should I keep it at 44.1/16 or have it upsample to 192/24. I think it would be better just to pass 44.1/16 to the Buff and let it upsample if I am understanding the technology inherent within the Sabre32. I just want to get your guy's take on this thought!

I would leave the output at native 16/44.1 or 16/48 and let the Sabre do the upsampling, as it will do a better job of it.
The advantage to using S/PDIF over our USB module is that you will have the ability to play higher res music (should you get some) and you can feed it directly to the Buffalo, so less stuff to buy.

Also the ESS chip actually up-samples quite a lot high than 192/24. :) Both in bit depth and sample frequency. :)

I thought I remembered something special that wasn't like standard upsampling, thanks for the reminder! Ill jus send it out 44.1/16 and let the Buff do the magic!
