Hi again Guys!

I'm building a six channel surround sound version of your beautifully designed Buffalo32 boards, and would like to explore the volume control capability. I currently use an EMM Switchman II, at about unity gain when seriously listening. Your access to the attenuator feature of the ESS 9018 may be an ideal less complex solution, as I do not need any of the switching capabilities of the EMM. Do you envision a method where I could have an individual offset of each of the six channels, plus a single master volume control? I can see how it could be done with relays and trip pots for the settable offsets, but I think it would require custom firmware and two Volumites per Bullalo32 board. Does the upcoming Femto hold any promise? Would custom firmware be available in the future to allow a two Volumites to control the two channels of one DAC board independently?

Thanks. I wish you both the greatest success with these new boards!

Wow, this sounds like a job for the tweakers board and AC1/Femto. :)

You could then use an AC1 and control both master volume and each individual channel trim.

But you could also do it with the AC1 and 3 Buffalo32. But it would take some more work. If you want to go for it let me know and I will see if I can help you out. No promises. But I will try.

Cheers
Russ

THANKS! :D

I guess the real issue is the Buffalo32 being able to address the volume settings independly on the left and right "channels" of each DAC board. I can devise the analog voltage to accomodate both the master and channel offset voltage to feed the individual Volumites, but the AC1 sounds like it's much more an elegant solution.

I'm sorry, I'm clueless about the capabilities of the AC1/Femto. Are you saying this is mostly software coding work?

Thanks again Russ,
Tom

Well here is the deal. The ES9018 has two possible I2C addresses. That means you can independently control 4 channels (2 Buffalo32S) per I2C bus. So You would need two I2C busses. Now this is not a big deal, but it means re-purposing one header on the AC1 slightly so that you have two I2C busses. Then the rest is just playing with firmware till it works. :)

Hi Russ and Tom

Im bringing up an old thread to ask: what is the current implementation method of multi and master volume control on a 1 x B-III setup?

If IR control is desired, what would be added?

Thanks

I am not sure what you asking exactly. You would need a custom controller like the AC2 or Arduino to control the channels interdependently. We could definitely supply firmware for that with AC2.

Hi Russ

I don't see the AC2 or Arduino on your site.. Am I missing something?

To clarify what I'm asking: I'm building an 8- ch biii and want master volume and also ability to change volume per channel/pair

If possible I'd like this capability both via knob(s) and IR / rs232 /ip

Thanks
