I would like to switch input btw SPDif and I2S on the front panel.
Is it possible to replace the dip switch (SPDif/PCM input selector), with a mechenical selector? Also, do I need to reset for switching?

No comment yet? Maybe the question I asked did not make sense.

The question I want to ask is:

Does "Direct I2S and S/PDIF inputs supporting up to 24-bit/192kHz" means I can connect both I2S and S/PDIF inputs without a switch? If I can, how do I make input selection btw the two?

I would like to connect two sources to Buffalo32, one CD transport and one HTPC. I can configure both sources to have either SPDIF or I2S output, and want to have selection function between CD and HTPC. What is the right way to do it?

Is this an older buffalo or the Buf32S?

OK, well if you want to use consumer level SPDIF you will need to switch the "SPDIF" switch to on. This switch cannot be on when using I2S.

If you are using TTL level (say from our TORX module) then you don't need to touch that switch, but you will need something like an OTTO to keep the input separate. You should never wire TTL outputs together as you never know which one is driving or active, and they could short each other out.

So you will need a switch of some sort, or a multiplexer.

The board is really design for you to choose one or the other I2S or SPDIF.

Cheers!

Obviously I was misunderstanding what the onboard SPDIF switch does.
I thought it switchs btw SPDIF pin and D1 pin on the Buffalo32 board.

Could you check if I understood your message correctly?
1. Two inputs cannot be connected to D1 and SPDIF pins at the same time without a switch.
2. Either SPDIF or I2S can be connected to D1 pin when SPDIF dip switch is turned off.

Also, your comment leads to other questeions.
1. Isn't consumer level SPDIF signal at TTL level?
2. Can I use any mechenical 4 pole switch to switch I2S signals instead of OTTO?

Sorry for my ignorance, and thank you for your help.
