Greetings,
I want to run the new dac for 2-3 hours at a time on a 6v and 12v battery.
What size battery would work 8ah 12ah?
Thanks

I should think either would be fine. :)

Total current draw will only be about ~200ma.

But you will want two 12V batteries for the analog supplies.
One 6V battery for the digital supply should work ok.

Cheers!
Russ

Would there be any benefit to using the power supply boards between the battery and dac for pre-regulation?

Probably not for the analog stages, but for the digital supply it would be helpful to pre-regulate down to 5V.

Russ, you said to use two batteries for the analog supplies; do you mean one for the + and one for the - rails?

How would you hook up a second battery for the negative supply?

Two batteries in series make a bipolar supply (+ and -) the mid point where the two batteries "+" and "-" join is 0V or GND.

How should bypass caps be placed when using batteries like this?
