Hi Brian/Russ,

I now have CD PRO2 - I2S into Metronome into Buffalo 24 into IVY, I wonder when I upgrade to the Buffalo 32s do I still need the Metronome or is the new 32s capable to work direct with the I2S from the CD PRO2.

Thanks,

Rene.

You will still need the Metronome. Few modern DACs will use 48fps.

I'm a little confused/uncertain.

I understand that Buffalo will not take I2S from CD-PRO2M because this is 48fps. As I understand from this and other threads this is unless the transport has a particular header (the presence of which I'm unable to establish as the link to the datasheet is broken).

However, I'm using the CDpro2M with a simple controller that allow me to choose/program output format between I2S-FS (default), I2S-2FS, or IS2-4FS. Is this going to help me or will I still need hope for the presence of a particular header on my CDpro2m unit?

TIA,

Nic

What is the simple controller?

No - it does not seem to work anyway.

Funny that a "state-of-the-art" DAC does not take the output from one of the all time best Red Book transports. This is actually not entirely true as the CDpro2 also output S/PDIF which is taken by Buffalo and very convenient with the MUX. I wonder if up-grading the master-clock in the CDpro2 is worth the money (cost about the same as the transport itself.....) or if the new XO on Buffalo32S will make this superfluous.
Thanks,
Nic

P.S. I assume that the Buffalo will not take the EIAJ format.

Hi Nic,

I stay with the Metronome because I2S just sounds better than SPDIF.

Ciao,

René.

I think you are right.
Are you using the Metronome and DAC boards in the same case as the CDpro2?
If I want to cable the CD player to a separate DAC (I2S via Cat5 cable) do you have any idea if it will it be better to have the Metronome together with the transport or in the DAC end?
Thanks,
Nic

I use everything in the same case, but when I should build it again in separate boxes I will put the metronome in the buffalo box.

See here http://www.xs4all.nl/~muizelen/ for some pics off the player project.

Gr, René.
