Hi all,
I want a DAC that i can feed up to 192khz of upsampled data from a dedicated audo-pc.
The DAC itself must do NO upsampling, only analog converting.
How does this work with the buffalo DAC: Does it always upsample or can upsampling be turned off?

It is possible, but it would require a different clock then we supply on the board and custom firmware.
It also would completely negate the low jitter benefits of the ESS chip.
In short its not something I would directly support.
So if you want to do it your on your own. :)

Ok, thx for the quick answer.
I suppose that when a feed the Buffalo with 192khz it will passthough its own upsampling algoritm? When i feed it with 96khz, it only upsamples from 96khz > 192khz?
I use cMP/Cplay pc-audioplayer using the latest high quality SRC upsampler (Best Sinc SNR 145.68db. (http://www.audioasylum.com/cgi/vt.mpl?f=pcaudio&m=42338)
This upsampling beats the upsampling quality of my StelloDA220 DAC, one of the best commercial DAC's around.
And what about the OPUS and COD DAC? Is upsampling also not switchable?

Hi!
I think the Buffalo will reclock the data anyway. Seem to remember having seen a post somewhere about the Buffalo operating on a much higher rate than 192kHz. Might remember wrong though....
The OPUS and COD do not upsample at all. They just convert.. They both input up to 24/192, and should be what you are looking for.
I have both the OPUS (dual differential) and the Buffalo. They are both very good DACs. I can't say that one is "better" than the other. They are just different.. In short I would say that the OPUS is a bit more dynamic while the Buffalo excells at creating bigger soundstages. The Buffalo seems also to be a bit more resolved in the mid-/highband regions.

The Buffalo up samples to something > 2mhz. This why it is so effective at de-jittering. :)
