I am at the stage that I need to update my DAC - I have used the old Elektor DAC for many years now:

Yamaha YM3623
Burr Brown DF1700
Burr Brown PCM63K


Would a Buffalo be a step in the right direction?

There is quite simply nothing in the ESS9008's league. Its a completely new beast that is not really like anything you could try to compare it to.

I've tried various dacs including the TDA's, PCM1704,PCM1794, PCM63, AD1865, CS4397/8

In my opinion the ES9008 is head and shoulders above anything I've tried so far

Just google "Sabre Audio DAC" and read what this DAC chip is capable of. I cant wait until I get mine built. I am amazed to be able to be on the cutting edge for so few dollars. This is a treat that will be savored for a long time.
