When will the SPDIF Tranceiver be available? Can it be used to switch between digital inputs and an i2s connection to go into the buffalo dac III?

It's available now, however...

It onlt has a single S/PDIF input, and is really for translating between S/PDIF and I2S.

The Buffalo accepts S/PDIF and I2S directly, so there is no need for the Transceiver module.

If you need to switch between multiple S/PDIF sources, the 4:1 Mux/Demux module will do the job. It will allow you to connect four sources and route them to the Buffalo's S/PDIF input. It can be powered from the Buffalo's I2C header (3.3V and GND pins).

To switch between sources, you can use either the 4-Input Selection Switch Kit (same page) or a micro-controller (like an Arduino).

Thanks for the info. But doesn't the Wolfson wd8804 chip accept from 4 digital channels/sources? From the chip specifications, you can control the input select on the Wolfson chip. So wouldn't this be a better alternative?

I think you are referring to the WM8805?

This chip has one S/PDIF input/output and one I2S input/output. From the summary: "The WM8804 is a high performance consumer mode S/PDIF transceiver with support for 1 received channel and 1 transmitted channel. "

Yes, it is the wm8805 I was refering to. The wm8805 is derived off the 8804, offering 8 channel digital input and one channel output. Both can handle I2S.

Am I mistaken that these will not handle multiple digital inputs which offer one channel output? Two of these chips needed for stereo input/output?

Maybe I am under a wrong assumption of these chips duties. I was hoping I could make a digital input selector with a single stereo output using the 8805 chip on a buffalo III se Pro version.

Again, the S/PDIF Transceiver does not have multiple inputs.

The purpose of the board is to accept a single S/PDIF input (which carries two channels of digital data), and output I2S (again, two channels of digital data) for use by a DAC. It was designed for DACs that do not accept S/PDIF natively (Opus, COD, etc). The Buffalo accepts both I2S and S/PDIF directly, so there is no need to use it.
