Hey guys,

My toslink module is being very finnicky. It works fine powered by a 9-volt, but when I try to power it with a 12V SMPS, or the ~5V feeding my buffalo, it produces no sound. Any ideas what to try? Can't keep going thru batteries like this.

It may have been damaged - you might want to replace either just the VREG or the module.
