Hi people,

After been playing with other stuff fore a couple of years now, I'm trying to bring a life into my Buffalo IIIse again.

The time I left the dac behind, Buffalo was working but the signal lock went out periodic. But,, with the firmware chip unplugged the signal lock did not go out!?

Now the problem is still here.. There is nothing wrong with the signal lock without the firmware chip, but plugged in the lock disappears from time to time... And that's a little annoying when playing with this fine dac..

Is it possible to get another firmware chip? Because of the use of Volumite function..

This is likely simply a difference between the DPLL default bandwidth, and the one you have selected.

Your source may require a wider bandwidth than you have selected.

How do you have your DIP switches set?

Hi Russ,

All of the dip switches are set as I received the dac from TPA! I haven't touch the settings.

The signal goes from Sony XA50 cd-player by S-pdif or optical into a digital selector pcb and then into Buffalo as an S-pdif signal.

The failing signal lock is still there if I avoid the digital selector, and let the S-pdif signal goes direct from Sony to Buffalo.

But again, when the firmware chip is unplugged there is no failing signal lock..

Ok it sounds like firmware default for DPLL is too low for your source.

Set these switches to the off position on DIP SW1(the one close to the I2C header) 5,6,7,8 all off.

Let me know how that works for you.

I'm on vacation for the next ten days, but as soon as I get home again, I will try it out.. It would be great to make this failing signal lock stop.

Morning Russ and others,

Here is news - It is odd, but good!

Last night I testet the dac. First playing as I left it with all the dip switches untouched (on pos.) for about 10 minutes and there was only one drop out, hmm much better than ever before..

I unplugged the power, set the 5,6,7,8 switches on DIP SW1 to "off" and power on. Played music in 15 minutes and there was no drop out!
Perfect I said to myself Angel

Then I turned off the power, set all the switches to "on" and powered tha dac again - I played music for one a half hour! and there was NO drop out in signal lock!! That's something I never tried before with this dac.

It is strange, but somehow the dac is behaving perfect and I have done nothing else but turn the power on and off and change the dip-switches.

In this weekend I will try and give the dac more time, but something tells me that the signal lock "ildnes" is gone..
