I was listening to itunes-usb-opus-ballsie when i started hearing a switching, light popping type of noise in both channels. Restarted the MAC, turned the DAC off and on. Still the same intermittent, but steady, noise. Tried a TT as a source, no problem. Checked the power supplies during operation, voltage is steady as a rock. Could this be clock related? What should I try next? The DAC has be working beautifully for months.

You will need to do a little troubleshooting to localize the problem.

Is there another USB source you could try?

If you have the output caps installed on the USB module, check to see if you get the same noise at it's outputs.

Check to see if you get the noise at the DAC module outputs.

Check to see if you get the noise at both the SE and Balanced outputs of the Ballsie.

For such checks, I usually use a cheap-o set of headphones (earbuds that came with a Rio Karma...that cheap). I use an alligator clip from GND to the ground portion of the hp plug, then just poke the tip of the plug around the appropriate terminal block screws.

Thanks for your quick response. Now it's working fine!? If it happens again, I'll try your headphone trick and get back to you.
