I need advice on how to add a record player / retro stage to my setup.
Current setup:
I use the Buffalo IIIse as a fully digital amplifier.
Computer -> Buffalo IIIse -> IcePower amps -> Speakers
So i now need the following features:
1. Manual and/or digital source selection (Usb or LP)
2. LP volume control (preferably digitally)
3. Balanced output to amps
My idea is to add the source selector just before IcePower amps.
Computer -> Buffalo IIIse -> Source Selector -> IcePower amps -> Speakers
Record Player -> Volume Control ->
Questions:
1. How could I digitally control the volume on the Retro stage?
2. Whats the best option for a source selector?

Hmm good questions...
You could use a Joshua Tree attenuation at the output from a 2:1 switch - but I am not sure what I would use for a switch.

I had the same idea to use Jushua Tree for attenuation. It would be preferable to have one common volume control stage for all sources. Any performance difference in using the Buffalo III onboard digital attenuation or the Joshua Tree?
Could the alps pot on the Volumite be switched for a motorized one? Does it have to be a 5k?

Performance wise the two solutions (digital attenuation vs analog) will be very close.
You can definitely use a motorized pot - but you will want a linear one if you can find it - between 2K and 10K should work. Possibly even 20K, but I have never tried it.
