Hey guys,
Is the firmware controller clocked externally? I ask because I can't seem to reprogram it with ArduinoISP, I keep getting back a device signature of 0xffffff, and I want to know if this is because the chip is fried (great!), or because i need to externally clock it to be able to reprogram to reference the internal xtal. Even then, will the new firmware .hex make the chip clock externally again so i can put it back? Thanks.

It is not externally clocked.
I program with an AVRDragon and AVRDude.
