My current power amp is the Douglas Self "Load Invariant" class AB. I prefer it to my previous amplifier the Hypex NC400 -- better definition and more crashing highs - more dynamic. (So now I need to go back and listen to the "Trimodal" class A amp I built and shelved for the Hypex.)

These Douglas Self amplifiers have a low input impedance, around 2K, unless the bootstrap parts are installed to raise the impedance to around 10k. Using the Retro without the phono equalization parts and reducing the gain to 2 worked out very well, using just the + output and common. (An appropriate voltage regulator was required for +/- 45VDC to +/-15.)
