I'm trying to troubleshoot a Buffalo-II that I built ages ago. Im really rusty and have no clue where to start. Its connected to an SPDIF mux that seems to lock to everything connected to it. But i2s or SPDIF straight into the DAC doesn't lock. So I'm pretty sure its something on the DAC board that broke. Any clues on where to start?

To start, try measuring the voltage output of each of the three onboard regulators. Also, measure the output voltage of the AVCC. Be very careful doing these measurements to not short anything out.

i2s lines should be kept as short as possible. Have you another source to try other than the mux?
Perhaps some good photos would help.

Perhaps some good photos would help. Its been running for a couple of years with no problems, so something must have broke. I tried SPDIF straight into the DAC, but not lock either. The mux seems to lock though, its just the DAC that fails.

Cant seem to figure this out. Is the Buffalo IIISE pretty much a drop in replacement or do I have to change anything in power or on the IVY?

It is almost a drop-in replacement. It does not have on-board regulators, so Tridents (or similar) are required. If you have some on the B-II, they will work fine on the B-IIIse.
The old S/PDIF DIP switch is gone, replaced with solid-state switching controlled via a 2-pin header (IP_S).
The board is slightly longer, but has the same mounting point layout. The added length is on the power-input end.
The B-IIIse also has the Volumite functionality integrated, using a 3-pin header for connecting the pot (if needed).
