Hello there,

After a lot of reading I still don't know which set up and parts to choose.

I want 1 or 2 PCM/DSD (Amanero), 2 Toslink S/pdif and 2 coax S/pdif inputs.
Balanced (and unbalanced) outputs.

All controllled by an Arduino.

Could you give me an advise please?

So I'm guessing you read the excellent Buffalo III Integration Guide? In particular the Input Options for both the BIII and BIII SE. Keep it close and re-read it to become more familiar with the options. ; )

The BIII SE allows for one SPDIF and one I2S/DSD input and you can switch between the two. (Like they say in the guide, the BIII SE has a Sidecar built in). Since you want additional inputs beyond that, you'll have to add the 4 channel SPDIF input board to the BIII SE since the other input allows for your I2S/DSD input. You'd connect two Toslink inputs to the 4 channel input board which leaves two for your coax SPDIF inputs.

If you go with a Buffalo III, you'd have to add the Sidecar along with the 4 channel SPDIF board. The Sidecar goes between the 4 channel input board and DAC which allows for one PCM/DSD input.

If you want two PCM/DSD inputs simply add an OTTO II switch before the BIII SE or the Sidecar on the BIII. OTTO II allows switching between two inputs.

I use an Arduino UNO with my dual mono BIII and IIRC it only has two trigger outputs. One is used for the Sidecar and one for my OTTO input. Or one trigger for the BIII SE input selector and one for an OTTO.

Fairly sure this is all accurate, if not someone will correct me.

I've read Leon's Integration guide. I noticed that there are 2 ways to go:
- B3 with Sidecar, Otto2 and 4 chan S/pdif
- B3se, Otto2 and 4-1 mux

But ..... When I read the Hifiduino site, specialy the part regarding input switching, it seems one can do without the sidecar.
Is that correct?

I'm not sure if HiFidiono's remapping includes the 4 channel input switch with a BIII though. I thought it was just for PCM/DSD input.

Correct, multiple SPDIF inputs (3) but not using the 4 channel SPDIF board.

You still need to level shift the S/PDIF inputs from consumer-level (0.5Vp-p) to TTL, which is all the 4-channel S/PDIF Level Converter board does.

I would suggest using the B3SE, Otto2 and 4:1 mux/demux plus 2 Toslink modules.
