just received two new Buffalo 3se dad boards for me and a friend. today we together soldered the parts.
and now one se3 has lock when i connect it to a source (M2tech Highface Usb to spdif) and the other has no lock with the same connections.

already checked and resolderd anything ( three times). all smd-led are working. the voltage measured at the tridents are ok (1,16 v, 3,23 v, 3,23 v) and right position. Terminal blocks measured. led tested.

but only mute is on; no lock?

how to proceed now

Hello,

as we have build two buffalo 3se I had the opportunity to test things by swapping one for the other.
so with one buf there is lock and music is playing well and with the second there is no lock (same signal, power, output stage). I tripple checked things but could not find any fault.
the only thing what is different on the two dac-boards is the soldering of the es9018 chip. on the working buffalo the solder marks are all fine and of sharp contour. on the not locking dac the solder joint pointing to the input-terminals are not of sharp contour they lock a bit "smeary" and I am not sure if there could be some contact? I was only able to see this by an magnifier glass and I will try to take two pictures to show what i see.
otherwise the two buffalos were handled/build with the same care (esd, heat, solder...) this is my 6th buffalo build and did not have such a problem before.

I don't think that is a problem. The boards were tested with S/PDIF before shipping.

Can you check the voltages at the following locations:

• At the Reset header, pad nearest the edge of the board.
  
  
• At the chip side of C12 and C15.
  
  
• (Very carefully) At the XO pin near C16. Be very careful not to connect the XO pin to C16 when testing.
