Connecting XLR pin 1 to ground on Ivy III

As I understand it pin 1 is the shield in the 3 pin xlr balanced interconnect.

When connecting pin 1 to the Ivy III it goes to GND.

Should pin one of my amplifier be connected to GND of the amp channel or earth ground?

Pin 1 should be the signal ground, not the shield. Shield should be connected to "earth ground," but not pin 1.
