Hi, I accidentally supplied 30V to my WM8804 board immediately after receiving it. Of course, the regulators were destroyed, since they only tolerate up to 16VDC (I think?).

Is it sufficient to just replace the regulators (which I can do, easily), or is there a possibility that the components getting supplied by the regulators were also damaged? I don't want to spend money on a whole new board unless I have to.

Boo hoo!

Thanks,

Michael

It's tough to say.

You can do some checking: is there a short between the VReg in and out? If so, you probably killed the WM8804 as well.

It's quite possible that you also killed some of the caps on the board, as several are only rated for 16-20VDC (Polymer and ceramics).

The impedance I measured between Vreg in and out is 129KOhms. I measured about 0.3Ohms between Vreg in and GND.

The input caps look fine on the outside, but yes, I was indeed concerned about whether they survived. Although, those are easy enough to swap as well. I happen to have suitable replacements for the caps in my parts bin.
