Hi,

Noob question but I'm having trouble to build up my power supplies and I was wondering if I have any chance to test the IVYs I already built without using these PS ?

Just to be sure before buying another set of PS if the actual ones are dead.

Do you have another bipolar supply you can use for testing? Without power, not much can be done.

Power supplies are now all working and ON.

LCDPS @5.25V to BIII
LCBPS @15V to IVY
I2C 3.3V out to exaU2I DVCC (not sure it's the good way to go though)
Jumper on PB4 + 3.3V on ADC (from bottom of the DAC, so you won't see the jumper on pics)

The DAC seems to behave the good way (see pictures).

My problem is that I measure 0V on IVY, both SE and BAL outputs (music ON or OFF, yes I tested that too :)).
On the IVY, J1 to J4 are soldered and I measure 15V on both 3 inputs.

What could I test next ?
I've read to measure R1 and R2 on LCBPS but can't find what is the optimal value ?

I would be grateful of any help :)

How are you measuring voltage at the outputs? If you are measuring DC voltage, then 0V is good.

Try wiring in some headphones.

That's true, thanks ! Your point made me remember the fact that IVY outs are DC free :)
Can I use some old iPhone headphones by cutting the jack and connect the wires on out ?

When debugging, I use alligator clips and connect GND from the board to the ring closest to the wire on the headphone connector, then just touch the tip to various outputs checking for output.

You could use a stiff lead wrapped around the connector ring and solder a flexible wire to it.

I could test right out and left out separetely using SE output.

If SE is OK, will BAL out be the same ?
I could test the balanced out but it requires to connect the IVY to my Audio GD Phoenix + Grado PS1000... so I'm not really on taking the risk to damage anything.

You can test the balanced outputs the same way (same ground connection). Just touch the individual sides of the outputs (+ and Gnd, - and Gnd, etc). It will not damage anything. In fact, you can use those outputs to power headphones long term if you want to.

Tested on the balance output to the headphones amp and it works !

Last question : I will need all 8 channel to setup my Xover on my speakers (4 way) but I'd also like to use the DAC as a source for my headphones.

Can I plug 2 outputs on 1 IVY : first one to a pair of amps for the speakers and second one to my headphones amp ?
Or should I use another IVY (5 in total then) ? I guess using 5 IVYs would require upgrading the trafo and/or adding another PS right ?

Your amps are (most likely) a high impedance load (>=10K ohm), so draw very little current. You should have not issues powering headphones at the same time.

Actually yes, Hypex UCDs seem to have a very high input impedance.
Even if I bypass the input caps ?

Yes. The input caps are there to block DC, and will not affect the audio frequency impedance.
