Here's the new DAC build, it is sounding fantastic. The USB interface is good to 24/384 and DSD 128 via DoP, runs asynchronously, uses Crystal CCHD clocks, and is fully isolated from the USB receiver section to the oscillator section and re-clocking. Additionally it has an onboard oversampling filter, using a custom semi-minimum phase filter (reduced pre-ringing, but no alias). The OSF converts to 352.8 and 384, and is to be used with the ESS' onboard OSF turned off. Here I am running synchronous clocking via the masterclock feed from the USB board. All the connections from the USB board to the DAC board are via u.fl coax.
Thanks to Russ and Brian (and to Salas at diyaudio as well for his regs) and all the other folks at diy audio who so generously share their experiences. The sound I am hearing from this DAC is the result of many influences.
