Hi Audio pros, beginner speaking. I'm considering building the USB reciever + Opus DAC close to a dedicated media player PC, use the balanced output of the DAC to connect to a remote (say 10 feet) Balsie (using two balanced/XLR cables). Does it make sense? Or did I miss a point? Alternatively, is it possible to feed the DAC (balanced) output into a transformer (10 feet away, like above) instead of Balsie? What type of transformer? (I'm unfamiliar with impedance issues - would it be a 600:600 Ohm, a 10k:10k, or some other combination?) Thanks a lot in advance for your advice! Using an 10-15ft XLR cable to connect the Opus and a ballsie should not be a problem at all. The opus is a voltage source and the ballsie a high impedance load, so things should be just fine.
The transformer should also work fine, but I would keep the impedance of the transformer over 2K. I have never tried this, but I don't see any reason it won't work. if someone else does please feel free to correct me.
Cheers! Russ
