Hey Russ,

Why am I getting 2 different sitting voltage reading from my IVY Output.

OUT_R - + or - 2.8mV

OUT_L - + or - 4.8mV

I also notice I getting a bit of distortion from the Ven EZ on this the Left side as well??
I removed the C1 on both of the EZ's.

Thanks
Dave

Pretty normal to have some small offset simply due to part tolerances.

I also notice a slight distortion from the Ven EZ on the Left side when listening via headphones. This is why I checked the values.

Then i would look more toward the Ventus EZ.

Especially if the SE output of the IVY is good.

I used the Balanced outputs, is that what your re: to when you say the "SE outputs"?

Sitting Voltage
EZ L (+) (-) 4.7 mV
EZ R (+) (-) 2.8 mV

I mean if the audio at the SE ooutputs of the IVY sounds good, then you need to turn you attention to the Ventus EZ.

I’m trying to figure why I’m getting distortion in the headphones

Why is C1 missing from the VentusEZ modules?

EDIT: CC1 is the one you want to remove. C1 has to be there.

Hey Brian,

I guess I missed read a post about distortion issues with this amp/module , I will replace the C1 and remove CC1.. Not a problem at all.. I will re post my finding once I'm done.

Yeah, thats my fault. I linked Dave to the thread but missed a C when I typed it. Too bad that the CC1 thing came out months after I had posted my DC problem with them.

Brian,

Have a look, I believe this fixed the issue. Does the voltage look ok with you?

Why is there 2 different voltage readings ? Just Curious.

Thanks
Dave

No worries SComp ... I should have double checked the parts before removing.. Anyway the CC1 came out clean and the C1's re-assembly was fast and easy.

Hey Brian,

Replacing the missing parts solved the distortion issues and a bit of grounding interference.

I think it sounds good and clean, but as I mentioned when I first emailed you about what to get (pic etc.), Our needs as a professional recording facility, we have to supply the same solid quality signal to multiple headphones at the same time.

In the past we used external Headphone amps, that had Volume Pit and dual outputs channels. Vocal booth is 75' min run. So when I tested the Headphone amp with the new DAC VentusEZ via (balanced) extender cable, the sound is not very clean.

One set of headphone in a Studio is like a Plane without wings!! :)

So the Question is???

1. How far will this signal travel and stay clean?
2. Is it OK to connect 2 Headphone jacks to the EZ's

Thanks
Dave

1. Well the balanced signal should go along way - I would guess 100ft should not be a problem. SE signals won't go so far. Make sure the XLR has a good shield.
2. Yes.

Hey Russ,

Great, I'll put it to the test, I didn't care for the sound of the SE outs, I'm not saying it was bad but the Ventus EZ's sounded much better to my ears. I believe if you have to use headphones as a reference source for recording, the EZ's would have to be the bare minimum.

1. Have you ever designed a board for external headphone distribution such as the one I mentioned.

One source input, multiple outs (2 or 3), one main volume control on the the unit.

Thanks
Dave
