Hi,
I have a BIII with legato3.1 in stereo configuration. So I am using 4 Dacs per channel.
Is there an easy way to listen in mono so I can test if 8dacs per channel sound better? I know there is a dip switch mono/normal, but not sure if would be enough or different wiring is needed.
Cheers,

It would be a lot easier if you had a balanced amp. When switching to mono, the 2 SE outputs of the I/V stage are used to output the signal. You'll need to add a bal-SE converter to get it to work correctly. And even then you're only listening to one channel at a time.

The biggest challenge would be control.
You can control a maximum of two DAC chips with one channel of I2C.
Honestly - probably not worth it.

Honestly - probably not worth it. I think he wants to try a single DAC module in mono first to judge if going to dual mono is worth it for him.

I went dual mono from a single BIII/Legato build using Twisted Pear Placid HD/Placid HD Bipolar power supplies. If I had to assign a percentage, I'd say it cost me double to get another 10-15% in sound quality. Biggest improvement were more detail and channel separation. Some might claim a greater improvement. It was worth it to me. YMMV (Your mileage may vary). Edited by user Sunday, January 6, 2013 5:44:47 PM(UTC)

My mistake - I misunderstood what he wanted to do. :)
