Hi There,

I have a few questions that I am unable to research.

I have connected my Buffalo III DAC with an USB I2C module (Amanero) that supports DSD over PCM (DoP).

Before, with SPDIF, unlocks where very obvious, with the music just clicking with unlocks.

Now, with the I2C interface, this is not very obvious, I've realized connector is very important, and also to have a closer ground return for every signal. If you don't, the DAC seems to be picking all sort of noises.

I don't now how to determine if I am loosing any sound quality because of the Amanero board or the connector. Since signal seems to degrade in a progresive way.

How important is the connector?
How will I know that the connection is good enough so no sound quality is compromised?
Does it make sense to be loosing some music detail with this configuration?

right now I am planning to build a small PCB with IDE connectors, so I can route all the GND paths very close to signals an also have a minimum distance between boards.

I have also seen some I2C isolator integrated chips, not sure if necesary?

Thank you very much!
Carlos

Hi Charly,

You could use an adapter like shown in this post. This allows you to use U.FL connectors + coax cable. This way the return path can't be any closer.

Teleporter would be an excellent solution.

I'm going to use it between my Amanero and WaveIO as well :)

It would be nice though if the connection on the sidecar could be the same as on the sidecar. In other words to use a piece of ribbon cable.

Hi There,

1)Corpius, do you know how to build/buy those mini-coax cables?

2)Russ, in my case I don't see a technical benefit on using the teleporter since everything is in the same DAC enclosure. I want the DAC to have an USB input and not an Ethernet one. since this will be more portable and not attached to an specific source.

Thanks both of you.

I would most certainly buy them as those cables are not easy to assemble. They can be bought at lots of shops. Just google 'Cable Assemblies U.FL TO U.FL'.
Russ and Brian sell the U.FL connectors for a very nice price.
