Hello guys,

I am lucky, a friend is building a SET tube amplifier for me.
I have asked him to add XLR inputs, to take advantage of the Legato 3.1 balanced outputs. This is a buffalo III implementation.

He made me the following questions:
How much voltage the legato has?
I understood from manual, that with standard resistors, it's 1.5 Vrms at 0dB.

How much output impedance?
I have no idea, can you help me please? :)

My friend told me that usually, the He would use a 600ohms:10kohms transformer to transform balanced to unbalanced signal. Any advice will be very appretiated.

Thanks!

Bump :)

Perhaps someone knows how to calculate legato balanced output impedance or has a link to where it has been discussed?
Perdon my ignorance.

Thank you.

The output impedance is slightly less than the value of the I/V resistors at the balanced outputs.

At the SE output it is almost nothing.

Thank you Russ,

So if I understood well. For the standard kit values, balanced output impedance is 150ohms.

I have been looking at the legato circuit, but I don't understand the Balanced stage yet.
Looks like the parallel FET stage and a current source ?
I tried to understand how the negative rail sets the bias of those fets, but is like I m lacking of some FET kwoledge YET.

Cheers and thank you

Hello Again,

Regarding the balanced output of Legato 3.1 (with buffalo III stereo configuration).

What is the DC voltage between (+) and (-) balanced terminals.?
What is the VRMs max (0dB) voltage between (+) and (-) balanced terminals?

Many thanks
