hi which output stage you raccomended for buffalo dac III
THE LEGATO 3.1 DISCRETE BALANCED I/V STAGE or IVY I/V Stage ?

Hi Luigi,

It is a personal preference thing. I've had both the IVY III and Legato 3.1 in a single BIII DAC build. Both sounded very good but I preferred the Legato and went with a second Legato in my dual mono build. The IVY III is the easier way to go and runs cooler. A friend in Canada has the IVY III on his BIII now. He is an avid DIY'r and very helpful to the DIY crowd over at the Club Polk forum.

Some considerations can be read in the guide, in the chapter "Designing your DAC". Main question: what will you connect to the I/V stage?

I want to have the best performance avaiable with buffalo dac 3 ,
i have connected the buffalo dac 3 directly in my preamplifier push pull transformer,
but the sound is worse than my other cd players yamaha cdx 10000 and marantz cd 16
so I think that the problem is the output stage that i don't have,
or a not good matching with my 30k/30k transformer input of my preamplifier

i'm searching a solution...

I'd suggest an IVY3. Or you could even buy both IVY3 AND Legato, and which you like best. It's not like they're very expensive.

BUt the best performance of IVY/I/V
require n. 3 placid HD bipolar with 3 transformer 15 volt+15 volt ?


I don't understand why Buffalo DAC 3 don't work very well directly in trasformer 30k/30k of my preamplifier.
the output impedence of dac is 781 ohm with my audio tekne preamplifier,it should work very well...
Any Idea?
