Hello - I have a non-working McIntosh MCD-7000 CD player that I've decided to use as a chassis for the dac. The chassis has a nice heat sink on the back. Would it make sense to relocate the transistors from the Placid HD power supply? I also have enough room to use 2 inch heat sinks. Thanks

Hello,
I have also used and old amp's heatsink. But I actually have relocated the transistors with about 5cm (2inches) wire.
I have done this with 1 Placid HD BP and 2 Placid HD SP.
But I have some problems with the ouput voltage fluctuations.
I let the fairly large heatsink(with active cooling standard pc 12V. 80mm Fan running at 5V) warm up for about half a hour. Then i set Vout to 5.25V.
When I let the heatsink cool off and put it on again, Vout wil rise to 5.65V (Which is to large for the Tridents reg.).
Is this because I use a big heatsink which takes some time to warm up ? I am aware of the negavtive temp coeff of the placid design.
Does anyone experiences the same problem : A too large startup voltage ? Thanks.

Problem solved.
I let the fan run constantly so the heatsink does not get warm. and therefore the "working" temp is reached fast, and then I set the 5.25V. So now it stays at 5.53V for a few minutes and then it will drow to 5.25V.
The heatsink does not get warm, and stays cool and the 5V fan I even can't hear it.
